Winter grey skies. Cold February freezes our faces and numbs our hands, but with a brisk walk to ignite the internal furnace, there’s time to appreciate the beautiful woodlands and trees in their winter glory.  With my poorly back, running is off the agenda, but walking is definitely good.  To try and find some positivity in my suffering it’s given me the chance to really look closely and absorb the majestic shapes and colour of Hollybank Woods at the gloomiest time of year.  In fact I think I like the subtle greys, smudgy greens and bright flashes of lichen more and more.

Inspired by Hollybank Woods, it’s silver birches that shine brightly in the darkest place and the threat of imminent snow, here’s a selection of recent monoprints from my winter walks.
